Mineral exploitation

At present Kaolin sand and red clay exploitation takes place at the `Filomena´ mine, nº 1.220. This mine can be found in the north of the Province of Valencia, in the Los Serranos region, within the municipality of Andilla, in an area known as Cerro Royo. This can be reached via the W-6203 road running between Villar del Arzobispo and Higueruelas.

The layers of clay and sand from the early Cretaceous Period are the subject of exploitation. These substances are found in seams of variable strength.

Actual production of clay is around 600.000 TPA and it is mainly used to manufacture ceramic tiles.

Kaolin sand is transported via dump-truck to the Llíria plant where the sand is treated to separate kaolin and Silica sand of different sized granules, such as AFA-60 used for making glass.

Caolines Lapiedra has another nine concessions reserved in different municipalities in the provinces of Valencia, Cuenca and Teruel, as well as five licenses for investigation in the province of Cuenca.
